hessenWARN is the official warning app of the state of Hesse in Germany. The system provides hazard and disaster alerts from various Hessian state and federal authorities all in one place. hessenWARN offers the ability to access diverse functionalities, alerts, and information consolidated in a single application.

The application is designed to be personalized according to your preferences. It only presents functionalities and information that you have selected and activated. Even after setting up your desired functionalities, you retain flexibility as you can modify your choices at any time.

hessenWARN integrates with common public warning systems such as KATWARN or the Modular Warning System of the Federal Government (MoWaS). This interface ensures that official information from authorities in Germany and Austria is available in times of danger and disaster. Localized alerts about hazards, such as major fires or extreme weather conditions, are delivered via push notifications through the app. Additionally, the app allows users to receive information relevant to their current location and up to seven other user-selected locations.

The location function can be toggled on or off by the user. By utilizing energy-efficient location tracking via base stations and Wi-Fi access points (rather than GPS), battery consumption is minimally affected.

The app features the following functions:

• Active notifications (push alerts) about hazards for up to eight locations: including the current location (referred to as "guardian angel") and seven user-chosen locations
• Postal code-specific warnings for selected locations with warning texts and color-coded classification of alert levels
• Continuous, anonymized update of location information, reducing the need for manual input regarding location
• Immediate notification upon entering a current hazard zone
• Feedback option for providing comments to the app service provider
• Nationwide hazard and disaster alerts
• Notifications regarding missing person searches by the Hessian police
• Warnings related to fraudulent activities (e.g., "Fake Police Officers") in Hesse
• Cybersecurity alerts
• Flood and earthquake warnings in Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, and Rhineland-Palatinate
• Product recall information
• Police advisories and details about selected events and festivals in Hesse
• Crime prevention tips and information on crime prevention events organized by the Hessian police

In addition, the app includes a georeferenced emergency call feature that allows users to quickly request location-specific assistance in case of emergencies regardless of their whereabouts.
